Frequently asked
Construction: your questions
Is an OPC coordinator a construction manager?
OPC mainly covers scheduling and coordination across project participants. A construction manager may also manage their contractor’s teams, resources and procurement. Tell us which of these roles your project needs.
Does a BIM assignment include producing every model?
Not automatically. BIM coordination can cover information exchange, conventions and issue resolution. Responsibility for producing and approving models must be explicitly assigned to each discipline.
Can an assignment cover refurbishment of an occupied site?
Assess the requirement against the structure and construction conditions. Describe access restrictions, simultaneous activities, working hours and contacts. This information helps identify comparable experience.
Which party does the professional work for in the project?
This depends on the remit: a contractor, the design and construction supervision team, or another coordination function. State this in the brief, along with the decisions they can make and the approval process.
How should electrical and thermal work packages be handled?
Describe the interfaces with other work packages and the missing expertise. An energy search can complement the construction scope with electrical or thermal studies or commissioning preparation.
